Five Lore Victims of War Crimes

Nice going Mr. Bush, Mr. Cheney, at al. Your war on terror is not only a dangerous joke for the national security of the United States, but is absolutely a series of war crimes that should be addressed at the Hague. Here is the latest on the suspects who were held and tortured at Gitmo for 7 years:

“It was the first hearing on the government’s evidence for holding detainees at Guantánamo. The judge, Richard J. Leon of Federal District Court in Washington, said the government’s secret evidence in the case had been weak: what he described as “a classified document from an unnamed source” for its central claim against the men, with little way to measure credibility. “To rest on so thin a reed would be inconsistent with this court’s obligation,” Judge Leon said. He urged the government not to appeal and said the men should be released “forthwith.”

Yes, you read that right. 5 people were held in a secret military prison and tortured for 7 years based on a single document of unknown origin. The judge, a Bush appointee I might add, also told the government not to seek an appeal, a stunning slap against Bush-Cheney and pals:

“Still, there was a buzz in the gallery when he announced that the government had not proved its case against the five men. In urging the government not to continue to fight the case, he noted that an appeal could take as long as two years. “Seven years of waiting for our legal system to give them an answer to a question so important is, in my judgment, more than plenty,” he said.”

This is really frightening when you consider the reality that we have no idea how many people are being held all over the world and that evidence against them may be nothing more than a piece of paper from an unknown source.

The Bush government's legacy will be that his administration viewed it acceptable to use torture as a legitimate tool. The torture of anyone is NEVER justified. The repairing of the damage done by Bush begins during the coming weeks and months after he leaves office.

The simple fact is, Nancy Pelosi signed off on torture... which gives Bush and friends defacto immunity because in order to prosecute him, you would have to prosecute her... and the dems would never allow that. Is this what they mean by "bi-partisanship" ?

Typical ”America is the center of the universe” nonesense. There is such a thing as international law.

Let's get something straight; "The Bush Administration" didn't torture anyone, a small minority of U.S. soldiers did. And it would have happened regardless of who was in the White House. When you see your friends arms and legs getting blown off by terrorists' roadside bombs every day, the natural reaction is revenge. It doesn't make torture right (because I don't think it is), but it's a natural reaction to the horrors of war. At least we're not kidnapping journalists and cutting their heads off on TV in the name of Allah like our enemies are.

Your ignorance is astounding, especially if you have spent time in combat...read the UCMJ and the US Constitution.
